Well, ‘tis our season and I hope you’ve all had as much fun getting ready for Artistic Quest as I have. It has been a busy month for all the board members though part of what’s kept me so busy is figuring out the technical glitch that has downed one of our two websites. Unfortunately, it is the one that contains printable versions of the submission guidelines, event entry forms and the membership application (www.coralspringsartguild. org). I will have its MIA issue resolved as soon as possible. At our last meeting the board discussed a number of important issues such as the changes to the Constitution (specifically Article 5.3) that deals with the annual elections and Installation of Officers General Meeting. It was decided that in April the Nominations Committee will present the nominees to the board. A ballot will be sent to all members with the nominees and space for a write-in candidate in the April newsletter. The election will be held at the board meeting the following month with installation of new officers at an end of year General Membership meeting. A revised Constitution reflecting these changes is included with this newsletter. Another paramount concern is the diminishing locations available for exhibitions. Candace and Eleanor have made a valiant effort at cultivating venues for new members-only exhibitions to add to our calendar. But nothing has come to fruition. So now is the time to call to our member artists. Anyone with ideas or contacts for possible exhibit locations of 30 or more works, please get in touch with Candace or me. Our contact information is in the column on the left of this page. I’d like to thank Janet Little for her effort and efficiency in continually improving the quality of our newsletters and helping me transition to president, but most for her wonderfully creative ideas. She recently suggested a Progressive Lunch Tour of Coral Springs Public Art where attendees would move through the city viewing the art pieces while refreshments are served. Janet also got us thinking about moving the Holiday Party to January where we could combine it with a CSAG fundraiser and Paint-A-Round in order to create an extraordinary celebration of art, community and camaraderie. We can all look forward to one or both of these events as the board will be discussing them further at our next meeting. Lastly, I’d like to wish you all fun and luck in the show. I look forward to seeing you on the 11th.
Message from the Vice President—Candace Childrey As we move into October, we find ourselves moving into innovative next steps in the newly reorganized Coral Springs Artist Guild. With the elimination of monthly meetings it is now up to you as an artist to keep yourself apprised of the goings on in the Guild. Here in October our first show at the Coral Springs Museum of Art is in the process of intake and hanging. A big thanks goes out to all of you present to help at the intake. We hope to see everyone at the Opening Reception on October 11th at 6:30. It should be a festive occasion and will be a good time to renew friendships and acquaintances and to meet new friends. This show will run until October 28th. Outtake will be on the 29th of October. Please take time to browse through the exhibit either during the reception or at a more leisurely time. Your fellow artists have been busy at work and appreciate having you look at their art. Bring your friends to see the exhibit either at the recep- tion or at a time that is convenient to them. People won’t know what is going on with our artistic endeavors if they are not exposed to our work. Our next scheduled show is at the lovely American Orchid Society in Delray Beach. What a fine place we have among the orchids to show off what we have been doing over the past months. That show will run from February 26th-March 23rd. We are always looking for new venues for shows. If anyone has an idea of another place for a show in the upcoming year, please contact me. My phone number is 954-752-2817.

THE CHATTERBOX As of September 27th, we have 56 paid members. We ended last year with 78 paid members. UPCOMING CSAG EVENTS At the August and September board meetings, there was much discussion about the annual holiday party. The original plan was to have a buffet dinner the night of the reception for the American Orchid Society Show scheduled the first week of December. However, there is new management at the AOS and they now require a contract which was not the case when Sarah scheduled the December 2007 exhibit. The December date was no longer available and Candy has scheduled our juried members only exhibit for February 28-March 22, 2008. As a result, the plans for a holiday party at AOS were cancelled. A number of proposals for a holiday party were discussed and the final decision was to not have one during the busy time of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s. Since the Paint-a-Round held in February of this year was such a success, the board decided to repeat it, but do it in January as a replacement for the holiday party. Although no definite dates, times, places or plans have been made, we want to do it during a weekend afternoon for our daytime only drivers. We are checking into using Sartory Hall since the space is adequate and parking is available as well as a kitchen, tables and chairs. We would sell tickets, like our past annual parties, for a beautifully catered buffet. The entertainment would be the Paint-a-Round with the finished works donated to the Coral Springs Museum of Art for their March fund raiser. We would also have donated items to raffle for our Scholar Award Fund. More information will be made available as the details are finalized.
"Laugh"
A famous art collector is walking through the city when he notices a mangy cat lapping milk from a saucer in the doorway of a store. He does a double take because the saucer is extremely old and very valuable. So he casually walks into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars. The store owner replies that the cat is not for sale. The collector pleads, “Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I’ll pay you $20 for the cat. The owner says, “Sold!” and hands over the cat. The collector asks, “Hey, for my twenty bucks could you throw in that old saucer. It seems like the cat is used to it and it will save me having to get a dish for him. The owner says, “Sorry, buddy, but that’s my lucky saucer. So far this week I’ve sold sixty-eight cats.
